The Science Behind Vinyl
The National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) provides accurate information to measure and compare energy efficiency—often called “thermal performance”—of windows and doors. Vinyl is usually constructed using polyvinyl chloride (PVC) with ultraviolet light (UV) stabilizers. PVC construction has a high R-value—the metric measuring a material’s resistance to heat flowing through it. Having a higher R-value means that vinyl is more resistant to the flow of heat compared to many other materials.
