Why Custom Exteriors

What makes the installation matter as much as the product

The best window on the market fails if it's installed incorrectly. Improper flashing, poor air sealing, or misaligned frames void warranties and create moisture problems. The installer matters.

AAMA
Certified Master Installers
AAMA (American Architectural Manufacturers Association) certification is the highest installer credential in the window and door industry. Most installers, even experienced ones, are not AAMA certified. Ours are, and they're our full-time employees, not subcontractors.
29
Years in the same location
We've been at 2142 Rheem Drive in Pleasanton since 1997, serving the same communities under the same name. If something goes wrong with your installation in year three, we're still here to make it right, not a disconnected phone number.
30K+
Projects completed in the East Bay
Over 30,000 completed projects in Pleasanton, Dublin, Livermore, San Ramon, Danville, Walnut Creek, and surrounding communities. That's not a national average. It's work done by the same team that will be on your project.
Platinum Partner, Infinity from Marvin
Platinum Partner is Infinity from Marvin's highest certification tier. It reflects installation volume, quality standards, and training requirements that most window contractors never reach. Our Pleasanton showroom has full-size displays. The difference between fiberglass and vinyl must be seen to be understood.

Why The Materials You Choose Matter More Than Most Contractors Will Tell You

The Bay Area puts exteriors through a demanding combination of conditions: coastal moisture, inland summer heat that can reach 105°F in the Tri-Valley, and year-round sun exposure that degrades finishes faster than most product warranties acknowledge.

  • Lower energy bills year-round — proper seal integrity and multiple glass/insulation packages reduce heat gain and loss.
  • Improved comfort throughout the home — no cold spots in December, no unbearable rooms in August.
  • Quieter interior — premium glazing and construction reduce exterior noise.
  • Increased resale value — named manufacturer warranties transfer with the home.
  • Virtually no maintenance — fiberglass and fiber cement don't rot, warp, or require repainting.
  • Curb appeal that holds — dozens of color, profile, and style options across all three product lines.

Common Questions from Bay Area Homeowners

How much do replacement windows, siding, or entry doors cost in the East Bay?
Pricing varies based on your home’s size, the products selected, and the scope of installation. Premium products like Infinity from Marvin fiberglass windows and James Hardie fiber cement siding carry a higher upfront cost than vinyl or builder-grade alternatives. They also last significantly longer and require far less maintenance, and in most cases, the long-term math favors the better product.

We provide free, no-pressure estimates with itemized pricing. We’d rather help you understand your options than give you a number that surprises you later.

Are fiberglass windows worth the additional cost compared to vinyl?
For most Bay Area homeowners, yes. Fiberglass expands and contracts at nearly the same rate as the glass itself, which means seals stay intact longer. particularly across the wide temperature swings between Tri-Valley summers and wet winters. Vinyl doesn’t behave the same way, and the difference in seal integrity becomes visible over time. Infinity from Marvin fiberglass windows also qualify for multiple glass packages that meet California’s Title 24 energy standards.

Is James Hardie siding worth it compared to vinyl or wood?
Fiber cement siding costs more upfront than vinyl. It also lasts two to three times longer with dramatically less maintenance. Over a 20-year window, the economics typically favor James Hardie. For homeowners near wildfire-prone areas of the East Bay, the non-combustible construction adds a layer of protection that vinyl cannot offer. We invite homeowners to visit our Pleasanton showroom, where you can explore full-size product displays, compare styles, and speak with our team. Seeing and touching the materials in person helps you make a more confident decision.

Can I see the products before making a decision?
Yes, and we strongly encourage it. Our Pleasanton showroom has full-size displays of the products we install, including fiberglass windows, James Hardie siding samples in multiple finishes, and entry door configurations. Seeing and handling the materials in person removes the uncertainty from the decision. Schedule an appointment to visit our showroom during the week or from 10-2 on Saturday.

What makes Custom Exteriors different from other contractors?
A few things worth verifying rather than taking on our word: we’ve been at the same location in Pleasanton since 1997 with over 30,000 completed projects in the East Bay. Our installers are full-time Custom Exteriors employees. not subcontractors. and they hold AAMA Certified Master Installer credentials. We’re Diamond Certified based on independent customer satisfaction surveys. We’re an Infinity from Marvin Platinum Partner. Custom Exteriors is EPA Lead-Safe Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) Certified, a federal certification required for renovation work on homes built before 1978, where lead-based paint may still be present. And we have a physical showroom where you can see every product we install before you commit.

"Custom Exteriors provided a great product and good service in replacing 2 sliding glass doors and 2 other windows in my townhouse.  One was a custom window that required extra work in refitting the plantation shutters to the new window.  Although there were some bumps along the way, Jeff and his foreman Ryan excelled at follow up.  I would recommend Custom Exteriors."

"Kevin one of the owners of Custom Exteriors contacted me the following day and immediately tried to make things right. The first thing, I was impressed about was he took my call without hesitation. Many medium sized business will bounce me around to different people before finally being able to talk to the owner. He was an attentive listener and took to the time understand my needs and wants in an exterior entry door. His communication was top notch, sending me estimates the same day or the following day. He gave me choices in fiberglass doors: ProVia and Therma-Tru, hardware: Trilennium vs Emtek, and single point vs multiple point locks. I just ordered a ProVia doors through Kevin. This surprised both to my husband and me. Before contacting Custom Exteriors, we thought we were going to get a Therma-Tru door, but that totally changed once we the information we needed from Kevin. I get the sense that he truly wants to give customers options and information, but respects the customer's final decision. There is not high pressure sale pitch. Kevin wants customers to be informed and happy with the end product."
